House remembers victims of 9/29/09

Daughters and sons, wives and husbands, mothers and fathers who perish in the  September 29, 2009 earthquake and tsunami were remembered in the Fono today.

Fofo lawmaker Fagaoatua Dorian Salave’a pondered on the tragedy of 8 years ago and the 34 people whose lives were ended abruptly,.

Leone village had the biggest number of fatalities, 11, including a student of Midkiff Elementary whose body was never found.

Fagaotua invited the Speaker and members to a memorial service at Leone’s Healing Garden this evening to pay tribute to the memory of the Leone victims.

He said  the family members of those killed are still traumatized from their loss.

Vice Speaker Fetu Fetui Jr., said today should also be a day of remembrance of the love of God for the Samoan people.

Speaker Savali Talavou Ale asked House members to remember the loved ones who suffered an untimely death in the disaster and not forget the immediate and overwhelming response from many people , the federal government and many countries for the territory,

Then he suggested that each member donate to the government’s disaster relief effort for hurricane struck states and territories and our own disaster relief assistance.
