ASDOH urges preventive measures to stop dengue fever

With Samoa declaring a dengue fever outbreak, the American Samoa Department of Health is urging residents to take preventive measures to stop the spread of dengue in the community.

These include eliminating breeding sites for mosquitoes such as cans, tires, drums and other containers that collect water.

Limit activities outside at dusk and dawn, wear protective clothing such as long sleeves and long pants and use repellant that contains deet.

Symptoms of dengue fever include a fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, joint and muscle pain, nausea, vomiting and skin rash.
