All attention turns to the seas this morning. After the weeklong postponement of the 2024 Flag Day Fautasi race, the captains, crews, villages and fans of the 9 fautasi competing are anxious to get this race over with.
Before daylight prayers were offered at each fautasi camp with words of encouragement and advice from village leaders before the crews make their way to Utulei and row out to the starting line. Before 5am, there were motorcades of fautasi fanes on the road making their way to Utulei. The race is set for 9am.
Weather conditions are ideal and the Flag Race Committee is planning to have a 7 mile race.
Seas are between 4-6 feet with winds of 10-15 miles per hour, with a possibility of scattered showers.
