Sika Anoa’i, a WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) Hall of Famer and father of current wrestler Roman Reigns, died on Tuesday, according to his nephew, Jahrus Anoa’i. He was 79. He and his brother Afa were known as the Wild Samoans.

In an Instagram post Jahrus said, “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of Former Hall of Famer, Pola’ivao Leati Sika Anoa’i.

“He passed away peacefully on June 25th. Sika was a celebrated figure whose contributions and legacy have left an indelible mark. His memory will live on through his achievements and the many lives he touched.”

The Wild Samoans were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.

The WWE released a statement concerning Sika’s passing: “The Wild Samoans’ impact in the ring as performers was immense, and they have continued to have a huge impact on the world of wrestling since their in-ring escapades ended .They no longer have the unorthodox behavior that made them so dangerous in the ‘70s, but they have over 30 years of wrestling knowledge to share with their students at The Wild Samoan Training Center.”

When Afa and Sika hit the big time, one of the main wrestling circuits was the World Wrestling Federation. The Wild Samoans captured their first Tag Team World Championship in 1980 and went on to win it two more times, the last after leaving the WWF and returning in 1983.
