Papalii Henry Jessop, a son of Samoa and representing SMX, on Thursday presented Starlink systems to the American Samoa Government.

Papalii acknowledged the efforts of the Office of the Governor, the Department of Education, and LBJ in seeking innovative benefits for the local community.

He specifically mentioned the great contributions of local companies, American Samoa Telecommunications Authority (ASTCA) and Blue Sky.

Governor Lemanu P.S. Mauga thanked Papalii for returning home and giving back to his people.

He addressed the concerns and reservations surrounding the introduction of Starlink in the terrritory, particularly the potential threat to local companies.

The Governor stressed the importance of collaboration and proposed bringing all key players to the table to discuss how they can support each other. “I want to bring all the key players to the table and discuss how we can come together and help each other,” he said.

A meeting of key players is to be scheduled in the near future to discuss this.

Papalii said SMX does not intend to compete with our local companies. “We want to work side by side with those companies,” he said.

SMX announced earlier that the LBJ Hospital is to receive two Starlink systems, while six will be gifted to the Department of Education.
