Nu’uuli’s Low Rider 1st to cross finish line

4th-of-july-race

The official results of BlueSky’s fourth of July race will be made official today.

Only eight fautasi competed after Vatia’s Fuao broke during their practice run on Wednesday evening.

The race course was shortened from three to two miles because of unfavorable weather conditions, and the starting point was changed from the mouth of the harbor to across the Satala power plant with the finishing line across Blunt’s Point.

Our race commentators, Doug Fuimaono and Faafetai Loli, report that the Fealoani Samoa, Paepaulupoo and Lou Rider were all vying for the lead in the opening minutes.

At one point the Fealofani was ahead but not for long before the Low Rider swept in front and made a dash for the finishing line.

The Paepaeulupoo and Fealofani got entangled and there was an altercation between some of the rowers.

The Fealofani is believed to have suffered some damage and the boat capsized at sea

The rest of the fautasi placings were unclear.

Bluesky CEO and President Justin Tuiasosopo said Wednesday that their Fautasi Race Committee would review drone footage of the race afterwards and the official results would be announced today.
