A special health exchange program between the U.S. Army’s 9th Mission Support Command (MSC) and LBJ Tropical Medical Center took place September 16th to the 26th.
Medical teams from the U.S. Army’s 1984 USAH (United States Army Hospital) worked hand-in-hand with doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers at LBJ.
This initiative, led by COL Al Giwa, 9th MSC Command Surgeon, began in October 2023 as a heartfelt thank-you to LBJ for its ongoing support of the 9th MSC soldiers.
The 9th Mission Support instructors provided LBJ staff with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training, helping them renew important certifications that ensure they’re ready to handle emergency situations.
Additionally, Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) instructors helped our nurses earn continuing education credits, keeping them up to date with the latest in trauma care techniques.
LBJ also provided free dental treatment to 9th MSC soldiers living in the territory.
A press release from LBJ said, “This exchange wasn’t just about sharing medical knowledge—it was about building relationships, strengthening partnerships, and ensuring that everyone, from soldiers to civilians, receives the best care possible. The collaboration reflects the shared commitment to improving healthcare for all residents of American Samoa and supporting our military community.”
The LBJ Tropical Medical Center extends its heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the U.S. Army 9th MSC, and all involved for their dedication and hard work.
