The American Red Cross has responded to about 20 families who suffered some losses during Cyclone Amos.

The local Red Cross has had a low profile for awhile though it has been offering help on a small scale to families and individuals who were displaced due to fires or other calamities.

Red Cross Regional Disaster Officer, Victor Roosen and a Hawaii representative arrived in the territory with the team from the Federal Emergency Management Agency which arrived here the night before Cyclone Amos was supposed to hit American Samoa.

The cyclone, which was predicted to hit the territory changed path and weakened as it blew south of the territory.

Roosen, who has only been in his position for three months said  he’s making use of the opportunity to connect with  local stakeholders, Red Cross officers and government agencies.

He’s also conducted training for 20 local Red Cross volunteers who have responded to families whose homes were affected by the cyclone
