The American Samoa group is already turning heads at the Festival of Pacific Arts in Guam.

During the parade of nations at the opening ceremony on Sunday night in Guam, our Saturday, our delegation dressed in red and black shirts and tops and black lavalava didn’t just parade.

Doug Tuigamala reports from Guam when our group got to the grandstand where Guam Governor Eddie Calvo and Pacific Community officials and VIPs sat, our performers and artists did a brief routine, a cross between a siva tau and mauluulu or action song…and that got the crowd clapping and cheering.

This first public appearance at the festival seemed to attract a big following when the Faasao Marist Cultural Group gave their premiere performance last night.

And did they wow the crowd.  Doug will give a report on their siva and pese later today.

At the official opening, the First Lady of Guam, Mrs. Christine Calvo, honorary chairperson of the Festival of Pacific Arts 2016 Coordinating Committee  spoke about the theme of the festival.
