As Bluesky continues to make improvements to its network, a project that will involve retiring older equipment and replacing them with newer equipment, the phone company is phasing out an older generation of phones.

A statement from Bluesky says 2G phones will not work after May 2d.
Currently, Bluesky operates both a 2G (2nd Generation or older technology) and 3G (3rd generation or newer technology) network.

Bluesky says most of their customers are using the 3G network.

However, a small number are using the older 2G network.

The phone company explains in a statement that operating the 2G network will increase congestion and affect the quality of service on the 3G network.

Therefore, Bluesky has made the decision to turn down its 2G network on May 2nd, and re-use the spectrum resources to add additional 3G capacity and make improvements to the 3G network.

“This will allow for improved quality of voice and mobile data services for the majority of our mobile customers who are already using 3G,” says the Bluesky statement.

According to Bluesky, the majority of their customers will not be affected by this change.

But those  who are using a mobile device that is not compatible with Bluesky’s 3G network, will not be able to use their phone after next Monday May 2nd 2016 .

Bluesky’s 3G network operates on the 850 frequency band.

To prevent interruption to their communication services after May 2nd Bluesky has been and will continue to contact via SMS and calls to all customers with an incompatible phone to come in for a free upgrade to a 3G handset.

Phones that are not 3G phones (ie 2G only Phones) including but limited to: CKT M2 and M3, Samsung GT – C/E/S, Alcatel one touch 918A, Plum One, Blu Tank II, Blu Jenny, Nokia 2690 and 2760H, Plum Ram, Blu Dash and more.

Phones that are not compatible with Bluesky’s 3G network (ie use a different frequency of 3G) including but not limited to: LG Optimus E440, Huawei Ascend Y330 and more. Bluesky uses 3G 850.
