Cyclone Amos Takes Its Time to Pass Through

Cyclone Amos’ expected time of arrival has been delayed until Saturday afternoon stretching into Saturday night.

It is anticipated to move directly over Savaii before it drops into a south easterly course underneath American Samoa.

A ridge that has settled over American Samoa is causing the change in course.

There is a possibility that Amos won’t change course despite the ridge due to Amos’s sheer strength.

The National Weather Service  expects Amos to be a  Category 5 by the time it nears American Samoa and would be able at that stage to determine it’s own course despite maps showing the ridge pulling Amos away from American Samoa.

Regardless, the territory can still expect intense winds of up to 70 miles per hour late tomorrow.

Just after 9am the skies opened and there was heavy down pour across the island.

The National Weather Service has had a flash flood watch in effect since yesterday.
