The rain was relentless Saturday and Sunday and highways turned into rivers some of which, like the flooded hotspots of Tafuna and Ottoville, have not receded.

The Emergency Operations Center received reports of homes in Pago Pago and Nuuuli inundated with water when streams burst .

Fale Ulufale, Acitng Public Information Officer for the Department of Homeland Security says that some families suffered damages to furniture and household goods due to flooding.

Several cars died in waist deep water in front of the LDS Stake Center in Ottoville.

The same scene played out at the section of the highway fronting the construction site for Argosy University campus, at the Haleck property near A&E restaurant.

The parking lot of SAAB water across the road was in knee deep water.

There were no evacuations.

Several landslides occurred across the island.

Ulufale says between 10pm Friday night to 3am Saturday, a major landslide occurred between Amouli and Auasi, blocking both lanes of the highway.

Many east side residents didn’t make it back home until crews from Public Works were able to clear one lane.

DPW worked to clear the debris from the  highway during the night then called it a day and returned to the site on Satruday,

Minor landslides occurred in Amaua, Faganeanea, and Amaluia and traffic as reduced to one lane until the debris was cleared.

Tuala-uta Representative Larry Sanitoa acknowledged Public Works crews who quickly responded to clearing flooded areas in his district.

He said the crews, led by Luki Tuitasi Manager, Maintenance Division were not only attende to the problematic Ottoville LDS church but they also worked on the main road drainage across from A&E Restaurant.

Rep Sanitoa forewarned motorists that frequently use the Ottoville/Fagaima route about dangerous pot holes that have also become bigger after yesterday’s rain storm.

Namely the new road cut across the Fagaima Laundromat and along the route past the Assembly of God Church before exiting  out the intersection by Island Image.

The Tuala-uta lawmaker says as soon as the water runoff is cleared, DPW crew will be there to patch these dangerous pot holes.
