A man arrested and charged from a police raid of the Aute Sports Club and Bar in Malaeloa last year has been sentenced to 8 years in jail.

Ah Chong Talamoa, also known as Akiogi Talamoa, is the brother of the woman believed to be the owner of the Aute, Tumuatasi Lefatia.

Talamoa pled guilty to possession of ice and unlawful possession of a firearm in a plea agreement with the government.

Before the court sentenced Talamoa, his attorney assistant public defender Mike White said after reading the probation report for Talamoa, he felt that the minimum sentence of 5 years imprisonment would be appropriate for his client.

But prosecutor Bob Pickett objected to a minimum sentenced and countered that the presence of dangerous weapons and contraband were very serious and led to alarm in the community.

Associate Justice Lyle Richmond asked what the government feels would be an appropriate sentence for the defendant.

The prosecutor replied that the government deemed that a sentence of ten years would fit Talamoa’s crime.

After deliberating for about 20 minutes, Associate Justice Richmond, Chief Associate Judge Mamea Sala Jr. and Judge Tunupopo Alalafaga sentenced Talamoa to 7 years in jail for possession of ice and one year for unlawful possession of a weapon.

The sentences are to be served consecutively or one after another.

Talamoa is credited for the one year he’s been detained at TCF . .
