A first offender begged the court  for a chance to return to his job and earn money to take care of his parents and serve his family.

Sab Sapati was sentenced Friday to 5 years imprisonment on charges of assault and private peace disturbance.

Court documents say the defendant, while intoxicated, stabbed his immigration sponsor with broken pieces of window louvers.

Before he was sentenced, Sapati said he was truly sorry for what he did and pointed out this is the first time in his life that he has been jailed.

He said he has wasted precious time which he could have spent caring for his parents and taking care of his family.

Saying he doesn’t want to be locked up in jail any further, he promised Chief Justice Michael Kruse that this will be his first and last time in Jail.

Sapati also apologized to the victim for not taking his advise which has led him to his current status…behind bars.

He promised that he will never touch alcohol again.

Despite his pleas, the court sentenced him to five years in jail.
