Mothers, they’re the first ones to get up in the morning and the last ones to go to bed.

On Sunday, mothers will be showered with flowers, ulas, and gifts by their children and spouses.

Mothers Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of May, and the special day to honor Mothers is celebrated on the same day around the world.

Governor Lolo Moliga says in his Mothers Day message this is a day that we honor our mothers, grandmothers and the mothers of our children, living and deceased for their care, concern and unconditional love for us throughout the years.

Lolo gives a poetic statement : “I do not believe that anything has ever been said or even will be said that is eloquent enough or expressive enough to articulate the value of a mother, because motherhood is a gift from God, it is more than childbearing, it is a life choice, entailing sacrifice and commitment to passing on human and religious values which are essential for a healthy society.’

On a spiritual note Lolo quotes from the Good Book:  “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth more than rubies, her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life”.

The governor also quotes the leader of the Universal Catholic Church Pope Francis  “A society without mothers would be an inhuman society because even in the darkest moments mothers are witnesses of tenderness, dedication and moral strength”.

On behalf of Lt Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and Mrs Pohakalani Mauga, First Lady Cynthia Moliga, and their children and families, Governor Lolo calls on the people of American Samoa to join them” in thanking our mothers for what they are, and for all that they give to our families and communities.”

Have a happy Mothers Day.
