They pulled and they tugged but they couldn’t remove the fishing vessel that’s been  on the reef near Aunuu island  for more than a week.

Despite heavy rain yesterday, the US Coast Guard, and several ASG departments, federal agencies and private sector personnel made an attempt to pull the boat #1 Ji Hyun from where it’s been sitting.

On Friday, April 15, the boat while enroute to Manu’a on a charter for the American Samoa power Authority, lost power and was carried onto the reef.

Cyclone Amos delayed salvage operations which were planned for last week.

To prevent the boat from moving during the hurricane it was ballasted or its fuel hold which had been completely pumped out, was filled with water.

Then after the storm all that water had to be drained.

Coast Guard Honolulu District, Commander Arex Avanni, who was here for Flag Day took charge of the removal operation yesterday and said they had some success in moving the vessel a little bit but then.
