Patriotism Runs High in Lead up to Flag Day

Utility poles are woven with coconut leaves, flags of the United States and American Samoa are hung from posts and windows, and red white and blue fabric drape fences and walls.

Today was clean up and decoration day for Flag Day.

From the airport  in Tafuna to Pago Pago, ASG  employees were out in force decorating from sun up.

Co-Chairman of the Island Wide Clean up Committee and Director of the Environmental Protection Agency, Ameko Pato said departments were assigned zones to clean and decorate.

The Fono staff was also hanging red, white and blue fabric on the Fono fence and weaving utility poles with coconut leaves.

The Development Bank of American Samoa has decked the front stairs of the Lumanai building with red, white and blue material and placed miniature flags of the US and American Samoa on the railings.

The fence to the Lt Governor’s residence is also a sea of red, white and blue.

Further down Utulei village, the Department of Human and Social Services has placed specially made decorations on their outside walls, and on the rockwall with the department’s name.

The market place in Fagatogo is also decked out adding to the patriotic ambiance of an island that’s ready for a celebration.

At Suiga-ula, a stage is set up in front of the Fale Samoa and tents have been placed on the perimeter  of the park. 

Crews from ASPA, ASTCA, and Public Works were installing utilities and getting things ready for the Trade and Farm Fair which kicks off at 10 Monday morning.
