Cognizant of the fact that the majority of the workforce in the territory are Samoan language speakers, the US Department of Labor has translated important documents with information on laws, benefits and entitlements that employees and employers should know, in the Samoan language.

The federal agency has also made the Samoan language documents available on line.

Director of the Wage and Hour Division, Hawaii District, Mr.Terence Trotter views the availability of the Samoan language material as a great stride forward  in their outreach efforts.

The translated material includes the minimum wage rates for the various American Samoa industries covered under the federal minimum wage law, fact sheets on the process for investigating worker complaints, common employment situations and applicable federal regulations  as well as how to calculate pay for time worked .

As Trotter explains the subject areas of the translated paraphernalia are commonly found in local workplaces that they have investigated.
