A repeat escapee from Tafaigata Prison is back behind bars after striking again.

This time Lauititi Tualima attacked a Chinese businessman of Vaitele-uta putting the victim in hospital with serious head injuries which police say were from a machete attack.

Police spokesman Superintendent Su’a Muliaga told the media, “Lucky the machete seems blunt, but the injuries to his head are serious.”

According to police, while the country was feeling the effects of Cyclone Amos last Saturday, the inmate walked off the grounds of Tafa’igata prison.

Su’a says police only knew that he was at large when the attack of the Chinese businessman was reported.

The Tafa’igata prison is now under separate management from police and Su’a suspects the police were not informed by the prison management as Tualima has escaped so many times before.

Tualima is suspected for the attack of an Australian couple last year and of a female employee at the Faleolo Airport Tower.

Su’a said when police were informed of the escapee early this week, the police special unit TOSS was engaged and found the prisoner at Lalovaea.
