8:00pm, Friday: Cylcone Amos is now 200 miles West of Pago Pago and moving towards us.

It is projected to track north of Savaii and cross Upolu.

The ridge that was originally supposed to push Amos away from American Samoa is weakening which means that Amos will come closer to American Samoa than earlier expected.

Amos is a Category 3 Hurricane now and will be likely upgraded to a Cat 4 when it passes American Samoa.

It’s closest point to American Samoa will be sometime Sunday morning around day break, and the worst of the storm is expected to last most of the day on Sunday before moving away from American Samoa on Sunday night.

Amos will be about 40 miles away from American Samoa when it passes us to the South East on Sunday.

Starting Saturday after 12 noon we can begin to expect storm force winds and residents are urged to stay indoors.

Again, the ridge that was guarding American Samoa from Amos has since been pushed Eastward and away from American Samoa bringing Amos within 40 miles of American Samoa on Sunday.

At that time we will see wind speeds of up to 85 miles an hour and gusts up to 100 miles an hour.

Next bulletin should be after midnight tonight.

Residents are urged to monitor local radios for watches and warnings.
