Training for Special Ed Parents and Teachers

About 50 parents and teachers have a better understanding of how instruction for children with special needs are designed taking into account the students; abilities and needs.

The Office of Protection and Advocacy (OPAD) conducted a training on (Individualized Educational Plan) and Transition Period Training for parents and teachers this morning at the north wind of the Lee Auditorium.

IEP presenter, and parent Sandra Scanlan conducted the training.

OPAD Program Director, Dora Ah Sue explained the nature of the training and its importance and some of the problems they’ve observed.

OPAD distributed literature which promote a parents support group so one informs the other of services and activities available for their children.

IEP Presenter Scanlan, coordinates a very effective network for parents, teachers and supporters of children with special needs.

This group is also connected with the Learning Disabilities Association of Hawaii (LDAH) and the Parent Training Information Center of Hawaii (PTI) which offers free online classes in understanding the children’s IEP and other issues associated with children with disabilities.
