Tuesday Fautasi Races Called Off, Planned for Wednesday

The weather has intervened and fautasi races scheduled for tomorrow have been called off.

Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga announced on V103 Radio that after the Flag Day Race Committee checked out conditions out at sea this afternoon, they decided to call off the races which were planned for tomorrow.

He said the main concern is for safety and the sea conditions they saw this afternoon posed a concern.

Therefore the Committee decided to call off the qualifying heats planned for tomorrow and postponed them to Wednesday.

Lemanu said that they will check the sea conditions tomorrow and then decide if the races will take place Wednesday.

The Race Committee has consulted with the National Weather Service and has been informed that swells should gradually stabilize Wednesday continuing to Thursday and should be ideal on Friday.

Lemanu explained that once the committee decides on whether the races will happen on Wednesday, the Captains will be informed and a public announcement will also be made.

He said it’s a well known fact that the fautasi race is the most popular event of any Flag Day and fautasi fans will be informed of the times of the races.

The Lt. Governor said he speaks on behalf of Governor Lolo and the co chair of the Flag Day Committee, Secretary of Samoan Affairs Mauga Tasi Asuega and Eastern District Governor Alo Dr. Paul Stevenson who heads the Fautasi Race Committee, to  thank all villages with fautasi, all captains and crews and the public for their understanding and support.
