The deputy director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Region 9 says they learned just as much as they imparted new knowledge and skills to local first responders involved in last week’s “Hurricane Matagi ma Savili” exercise.
For three days, the American Samoa Department of Homeland Security Conference room was the nerve center for the drill which simulated a Category 5 hurricane.
About 2 dozen FEMA officials from off-island were here to work alongside local first responders under the leadership of the Governor’s Authorized Representative to FEMA, Lt. Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga.
Region 9 Deputy Director, Dr. Ahsha Tribble underscored the importance of involving the players that will be making decisions and responding in a real disaster and that’s true for both the federal and local level.
