American Samoa lost one of the most community minded business men and good guy all around on September 8.

Sa’ofetalai Ignatius Iki Scanlan passed away at Torrance Memorial Hospital in Torrance, California.  He was 48.

His wife, Luana and two childen, Toaalii & Tulei, his parents, High Chief Fanene MIkiorris Scanlan and Dr. Saeu Leau Scanlan, and his only sibling, sister Shanna and her son Ikenasio, will be joined by his many relatives, his classmates  from Marist Brothers High School, his  employees from Morris Scanlan Service Center and Samu’s Ice Cream, and members of the many sports, community and charity organizations that Iki served on, or helped, to pay tribute to Iki at a memorial service at 6 this evening at the Fatuoaiga Hall.

Just a few months ago Iki was given the sad news that he had pancreatic cancer.

His passing has been felt in many parts of the community because of his youth, and because of the person he was.

Archie Taotasi Soliai and Iki were like brothers.

Iki was fiercely proud of being a Marist Alumni  and in fact organized a reunion of his graduating class last year.

After elementary and high school with the Marist Brothers here he attended  Washington State University & Cal State Dominguez Hills then moved back to the territory in 2001 to take over the family business Morris Scanlan Services, Inc.

Iki ‘s funeral service is Saturday…his Mass of Celebration  will be held at the Holy Family Cathedral, Fatuoaiga at 10 Saturday to be followed by his burial at their family home in Fogagogo.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family.
