Samoa’s Police Commissioner Fuiavailili Egon Keil spent yesterday in a police cell after being arrested on new charges.

The commissioner had been released Friday and the charges against him dismissed for lack of evidence.

But yesterday he was re arrested and charged with more than 10 new charges.

The Acting Police Commissioner, Samoa Mulinuu Mulinuu, told Talamua online one charge is incite to murder, and more than 10 charges of registering unlawful weapons.

He said the charge of incite to murder aroused from an incident in 2015, during a raid at Faleatiu, where Fuiavailili allegedly ordered a police officer to kill someone.

Mulinuu said the person that was targeted was not armed whereas the police were heavily armed.

As for the charges of registering unlawful weapons, Mulinuu said the Commissioner instead of destroying some of the unlawful weapons collected from the amnesty program, allegedly registered these guns and handed them over to the police Tactical Operational Squad (TOS) to be used during raids.

Some observers are describing the latest developments nothing more than a coup from within the ranks of the police force.

Since Fuiavailili was appointed two years ago he has made many changes in the top ranks of the police force.

The retired Los Angeles cop has also been branded as being disrespectful to the faasamoa and not following protocol in his style of leadership.
