The Chief Executive Officer of Samoa’s Ministry of Justice, Papalii John Taimalelagi, has confirmed that only 22 new charges have been officially lodged against suspended police commissioner Fuiavailili Egon Keil.
Papali’i told Talamua online that the charges are related to firearms but this will be clarified in court.
He said the charges are counsel and procuring to murder, possession of unlawful firearms, armed with dangerous weapons, threatening words, and uttering insulting words.
A few days after the police commissioner was charged and suspended again by Cabinet, the overseas media reported that he faces some 200 plus charges.
Papali’i however emphasized that the Ministry of Justice is the authority that assesses charges.
