The company from Alaska scouting for employees from American Samoa hopes to hire a total of 250 workers.
Recruiting Manager for Silver Bay Seafoods, Shannon Grant, says this will be their company’s third consecutive year coming to Pago Pago to recruit workers.
And the success rate of previous hires has been high.
Grant says some of the employees they hired from the territory are working as production employees and also as Leads.
About 80% of workers from the territory complete the season and 50% want to return year after year.
The Recruiting Manager says they are looking for individuals that can work long hours on a production line doing the same repetitive task over and over for several months.
She added that the people they have hired from American Samoa have shown great work ethic and pride in their work.
Representatives of the Alaskan company, one of the world’s largest salmon producers will be at Tradewinds Hotel from 8am to noon this Saturday signing people up for their interviews.
Applicants will be scheduled for in person interviews and given a paper application.
The in person interviews will then be held either Saturday afternoon or on Monday.
The interviews will last about an hour, with a brief video and an information session.
They will then meet with the Silver Bay Seafood rep for a brief talk.
Grant says after they complete their in person interview it will take about 2 weeks to get all the paperwork processed and at that time they will receive an email from Silver Bay Seafoods regarding the next step.
The processing season will run between mid-June to early to mid-September.
Grant said, “We are very excited about returning to Pago Pago and hope that we will have the opportunity to hire many more wonderful people from the island.”
The hiring by the company from Alaska comes as 700 people are out of work due to the closure last month of canning operations at the Samoa Tuna Processors plant.
