The US Army has sought the assistance of Governor Lolo Moliga in trying to secure land in the territory to be used for a firing range and training area for local army reservists.
This was the purpose of a brief visit by the Commanding General of the US Army Pacific Robert Brown and two other generals from US Army Pacific.
The Army officials who spent two days here are trying to secure 80 acres of land to be leased for training activities.
They’ve sought assistance in dealing with local landowners as they are aware that most land in the territory is communual which means any lease negotiations will involve clans rather than individual land owners.
The Army sees establishing a suitable training area as a savings to the Army because at present they have to transport local eservists to Hawaii and the mainland for training purposes.
General Brown and his delegation met separately with Governor Lolo Moliga and representatives of Congresswoman Aumua Amata’s Office.
They were guests at a dinner hosted by the Governor and First Lady at DDW Tuesday night.
General Brown’s entourage included General Lee former head of the US Army Reserves in the Pacific.
General Brown took command of the US Army Pacific in April of last year.
