McConnell Dowell has responded favorably to a request from a leader of one of the church communities using the Ottoville and Fagaima roads for help in alleviating the flooding and filling potholes on these roads.
Larry Sanitoa, chairman of the International Community of the Holy Family Parish at Fatuoaiga, wrote to McConnell Dowell last week asking for help on the flooded access roads to the Cathedral…these are the road running by the LDS church in Ottoville and the one by the cemetery near Hope House.
Sanitoa said, ‘Easter Season is around the corner and our Diocese and parish will be holding several church services. Obviously there will be higher than normal traffic in the Ottoville area especially the two roads going towards Fatuoaiga,”
Sanitoa, who was the faipule for Tuala-uta for more than a decade said in the past McConnell Dowell “has helped us tremendously in repairing these two badly damaged roads as a community service project.
“We are again humbly requesting your assistance for a temporary repair to the sectors of these two roads with asphalt if possible Although it is a temporary fix the used asphalt lasts a lot longer than the base course of the standard fill loads.”
The two roads have been constantly flooded and cars traversing the lakes are emitting strange noises.
Some driver are reverting to using the Fagaima road which has many pot holes.
Stuart Pilot, former Project Manager for McConnell, who’s filling in while Nick Strange is on holiday said their company is arranging for temporary repairs to be done around the roads leading up to the church ahead of Easter.
Potholes on the Fagaima road have been patched. It’’s not known what will be done about the flooding.
