Parents of Fagaitua High School students are disappointed that the Director of Education is not allowing the school to participate in the Flag Day Fautasi Race.

This would have been the Vikings first time to compete in a fautasi race.

The decision was made known at a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting last night at the school.

Several parents who spoke to KHJ News said that they felt sorry for their children who have been practicing and so excited to join in the tuuga fauatsi.

Fagaitua has been rowing the Sinapioa fautasi from Aua.

Some parents questioned why in the past, Samoana High School was allowed to compete in the Flag Day fautasi race but Fagaitua has been turned down.

Parents said the director’s reason for not allowing the Vikings to row in the long boat race for Flag Day is lack of insurance coverage for the student rowers.

Parents are outraged at the decision pointing out that this has been true for football and other sports and it hasnt stopped those respective school sports competitions.
