If approved by Governor Lolo, the vessel Segaula will be dispatched to Ta’u, Manu’a to investigate unusual boat movements reported from Tau Island last Friday night.
This was announced by Director of Homeland Security Samana Semo Veavea to members of the media late this morning.
The team traveling on the Segaula vessel would include Public Safety, Homeland Security and US Coast Guard.
As KHJ News has reported earlier, the local Marine Safety Detachment unit had conducted interviews and forwarded a report to their Honolulu headquarters.
Samana has been briefed by the US Coast Guard unit of their findings.
Residents of Manua had reported seeing from shore at night what appeared to be two large vessels.
And they also claimed that two small boats were sighted making their way to shore between Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning.
The Coast Guard has been able to track vessels which were close to the Manu’a islands around the time frame of the sightings.
