American Samoa honors veterans

American Samoa joins the rest of the nation in honoring veterans tomorrow.  Since November 11 falls on Saturday the public holiday for Veterans Day is tomorrow.

Federal and ASG offices will be closed and most businesses will also observe the holiday.

A ceremony paying tribute to the sacrifices of men and women in the US Armed Forces takes place at 8 tomorrow morning at the VA Memorial in Tafuna.

Acting Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga, a veteran himself will present a wreath at the monument that was erected  to honor all local veterans.

Lemanu will also deliver the main address.

The US Army reserve will give the gun salute and play taps.

All of the flags of the various branches of the Armed Forces will be hoisted during the ceremony.

Tafuna High School studenst Nikita Ah Kuoi and Malu Mautoatasi will perform a special musical tribute.

Rev.  Iese Aasa of the CCCAS Amanave, a retired Army Staff Sgt. will lead the prayer service and the choir from his congregation will sing the hyms.

Deputy Secretary of Samoan Affairs Malemo Tausaga is the emcee for the ceremony.
