The Congregational Leader of the Missionary Sisters of the Society of Mary, the order of nuns who once operated the Sisters Schools at St Theresa’s Leone  and St Francis Lepua visited the Diocese of Samoa-Pago Pago today.

Sr. Georgeanne Marie Donovan, who is based in Rome, was accompanied by a former Principal of St. Theresa School, Sr. Kathleen Ruck of New Zealand, now the Regional Superior of Oceania.

Sr. Georgeanne Marie who is from Pennsylvania, was visiting the SMSM Sisters in Tonga, Fiji and Samoa.

She said a few years ago, Bishop Peter Brown had issued an invitation for the SMSM nuns to return to American Samoa, an invitation which her congregation has yet to respond to.

While she was visiting the SMSM sisters in Samoa she’s decided to come to the territory and listen to the wishes of the church and see how the SMSM sisters can best respond.

This morning, the  Catholic nuns were greeted at the airport by Vicar General Monsignor Viane Etuale and the President of the SMSM Association in American Samoa, Mrs Peka Baker.

Before they departed late this afternoon, they visited where the nuns lives and taught at Leone and Lepua and other Catholic schools.
