It’s Teacher Appreciation Week and teachers across the territory have been showered with thank-you notes, gift baskets, candy ulas, even baked goodies.

Students and parents are showing their appreciation for the teachers, hard work and patience.

A simple lollipop moved one teacher to tears saying it’s great to be appreciated.

At Matafao Elementary School 7th grade teacher Faaui Vaitautolu said she’s thankful for anything that her students give her, but the most important gift for her is to see her students succeed.

KHJ News asked a few teachers – “If there’s anything they would like to see improved about the teaching profession in American Samoa, what would it be?”

Several said teachers should be paid more because a lot of times they spend part of their paychecks to buy instructional materials.

A Samoana High School teacher Carl Schuster Jr had this response.
