A contractor to build the new Fono building has yet to be selected according to a member of the Source evaluation Board, Joseph Pereira, head of the Architectural and Engineering Division of Public Works.
Pereira told KHJ News that the SEB is expected to make a final selection by next week.
He confirmed that there were only two bidders: Paramount Builders and Fletchers.
Initial funding of $3 million for the Fono project was included among projects funded by the $20 million loan from the Retirement Fund during the Togiola administration, another $3 was to come from the bond sale which raised $78 million for the American Samoa Economic Development Authority and $6 million from CIPs for Fiscal Year 2019 and 2020.
Senate President Gaoteote Palaie announced during the Senate session yesterday that a ground breaking at the site of the new Fale Fono will be scheduled for when the Fono reconvenes on the week of August 6.
Lively & Associates of Honolulu designed the new building.
