Travelers between the main islands of Samoa will soon be able to book into a bed and breakfast facility, right there on the wharf at Mulifanua, Upolu.
The Samoa Shipping Corporation has confirmed it is about to build a hotel at the busy wharf “for the convenience of the travelling population”.
“The Bed and Breakfast Hotel project will start in a few months and we anticipate having it where the old facilities were,” said SSC General Manager Papali’i Willie Nansen.
He told the Samoa Observer that SSC doesn’t intend to compete against local businesses, rather it wants to provide services for the people’s convenience.
Papali’i said the bed and breakfast will be the second phase of the Mulifanua Wharf remodeling.
The first phase was a $200,000 upgrade of the terminal and parking facilities.
According to the GM, the ultimate objective of the state-owned corporation is to become self-sufficient and be able to improve terminal services and provide safe vessels for the people to travel.
“I mean we want to move forward like everyone else and the Mulifanua wharf is turning out to be exactly as we planned a one stop shop. We now have a branch of the bank, automated teller machine, stores and new restrooms. We’ve got the businesses that can cater for the needs and wants of tourists as well as waiting passengers,” said Papalii.
