“Our prayers are with CNMI as they will face a major recovery effort and our thoughts are with those in Guam still experiencing the effects of this huge storm.
“Many people will be displaced, and many will lose possessions, homes and businesses.
“We have deep connections with our Pacific neighbors, especially the other U.S. Territories, and there are certainly Samoans living in the path of this storm.
“I trust that FEMA will strongly support them in this time of need and the recovery to follow, and may God bless all the efforts to stay safe and help others.”
Three American Samoans experienced the wrath of the super typhoon.
Vaamua Henry Sesepasara, Christina Lutu Sanchez and Nate Ilaoa are in CNMI attending a meeting of the Western Pacific Fisheries Management Council.
Lutu Sanchez posted on her Facebook page, “Needing lots of positive vibes and prayers, this is a really scary Super Typhoon Yutu! but we still have power, water and internet at this hotel and a scary as hell howling monster of a typhoon!”
At 1:30 am she said,“We’re right in the thick of it. Winds are so strong it’s unreal. Worse than Gita, Ofa , Heta, or Val”.
