Manumalo donates $15,000 to help California fire victims

This morning at the Red Cross headquarters at Tafuna three checks totaling $15,000 were donated for victims of the tragic fires in California.

The Manumalo Baptist Church, Manumalo Baptist Academy and Paramount Builders donated $5,000 each.

Pastor Filifaatali Mike Fuiava said that the donation was to show our sisters and brothers in California who were victims of the fires that they have fellow Christians here who are thinking and caring about them.

He expressed the hope that other businesses, churches, schools , organizations and individuals will contribute.

Also present were the owner of Paramount Builders Papalii Laulii Alofa and his wife Leota Wanda, church officials and members of the National Honor Society.

Governor Lolo Moliga, Patron of the American Red Cross, American Samoa, Chairman of the Board Vaitoa Hans Langkilde and Board members were also in attendance.

The President of the Manumalo National Honor Society Aitulagi Alofa spoke on behalf of the school.

Governor Lolo Moliga spoke on behalf of the government and people of American Samoa to thank the Baptist Church, Manumalo Academy and Paramount Builders for their kind gesture.

He said while giving is part of human nature Samoans have their own culture of giving.

According to the governor, Samoans tend to give even if they dont have any money in their pocket.

He said they’ll give $300 today and then come to the Governor’s Office tomorrow to ask for money to pay their power bill.

Lolo was impressed with the donation from the school and said “its good to get our children used to the habit of giving.”

Chairman of the Red Cross Board Vaitoa Hans Langkilde also extended their appreciation for the monetary donation.
