
Tafuna High School National Honor Society handed a check of $7,000 to the Department of Health this morning.
The money is to be used to held detect and treat Rheumatic Heart Disease.
The money will help fund the annual visit by a medical team from the Oregon Health and Science University to check on children with RHD.
According to a study by the school, the prevalence of RHD in American Samoa which is 12.8 percent is to date the highest reported in world literature.
The Tafuna NHS raised the money through the color run a week ago.
Margaret Sesepasara and staff of DOH represented Director Motusa Tuileama Nua in accepting the check and thanking the Tafuna NHS and their advisers for their efforts which will help combat this fast spreading condition among the young people of American Samoa.
