The President’s Day holiday ended in tragedy for the family of a man who drowned yesterday while fishing off Fatu ma Futi.
The man was reported to be fishing with his son near the reef and picnickers and swimmers at the popular swimming area heard a cry for help and responded.
Marine Patrol received a call around 2 pm and their vessel was dispatched. But by then an EMS crew and adults who were at the beach had reached the distressed fisherman.
Pulu Ae Ae Jr. said he stopped there when he passed by and saw what he suspected to be someone in trouble.
He told KHJ News that when EMS brought the body to shore the man was not breathing. Police confirmed that efforts to revive the man were unsuccessful.
