There was another break in at Tafuna High School early this week.
The Tafuna High School PTA President William Spitzenburg was notified by the Principal Tutuila Tigilau in an email Tuesday morning that there was another break in, either the night before or early that morning in one of the classrooms.
She said a door was broken but it appears that nothing was taken from her observation.
The principal suspects that the culprits were looking for money since they didn’t take anything from the classroom.
She said that the school really needs a night time security guard.
Principal Tigilau also inquired with the PTA President if there was any progress in installing a security camera.
Spitzenburg said the PTA is looking into the cost of installing a security system for the school office.
He added, “I am certain Rep. Sanitoa is also working hard on his end to find a solution to this.”
Tuala-uta lawmaker Sanitoa said he was sorry to hear of this unfortunate and disappointing news.
He has discussed the latest break in with Commissioner of Public Safety Le’i who told him he will look into it and get back to him.
Sanitoa said while DPS agreed to increase patrolling of the school compound, they cannot be there 24/7.
He added that perhaps DOE Director Dr. Ruth Matagi Tofiga can give an update on her efforts to get security cameras and/or a security guard for Tafuna.
In the meantime, Sanitoa said he was working with the Criminal Justice Planning Agency to look at possible grants for funding.
The faipule suggested that in the interim THS look into temporarily hiring a security guard, especially on the weekends, while DOE continues to look at sustainable funding for a long term solution.
This is the third time Tafuna High School has been broken into in a month.
