Downtown Fagatogo is already sporting a new look with several projects in stages of completion, almost completed and yet to be constructed.
The Fagatogo Rehabilitation and Redevelopment Initiative includes the new DPS building with new fire station right next to it, extension of the Fagatogo Pavilion, new museum building and the new Fono building which has yet to resume due to regulatory issues with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Director of Commerce Keniseli Lafaele says plans are to build a Visitors Center where the old fire station used to be.
The old building next to the Museum has now been demolished.
The Lumanai Building will also be undergoing renovations to house the Census 2020 Office and one of the new features is an elevator for the two story building.
The US Census Bureau is providing funding through the Department of Commerce for the renovations for the Lumanai Building which is owned by the Development Bank of American Samoa.
Included in the plan is redevelopment of the Rainmaker Hotel site in Utulei.
Director Lafaele says the US Environmental Protection Agency and ASEPA recently tested the soil in the area for hazardous materials and chemicals and gave the green light to proceed.
ASG has been looking for developers for the site.
Lafaele said this project is in the early planning stage.
And at Malaloa, businessman Peter Crispin is upgrading the Misalefua building.
Very soon signage for landmarks will be erected in the Bay Area.
