The American Samoa Rowing Association is hosting Dr. Andrew McKenzie from the Vanuatu Rowing Association and the International Rowing Union this weekend.

Their guest is  here to watch the fautasi race in advance of the coastal rowing clinic the association is holding in July.

The American Samoa Rowing Association, held its first mini-clinic last year after sending two athletes and a coach to Vanuatu for an introductory camp and competition.

This year’s camp in July will include athletes from American Samoa, Samoa, Vanuatu and potentially Kiribati and Fiji.

The association’s goal is to provide our people, especially the younger generation, opportunities to continue rowing beyond fautasi season.

Rowing is an Olympic sport and it’s hoped that this can open up athletic scholarship opportunities for our youth.

Officers of the American Samoa Rowing Association are Louis Solaita-President,  Mike McDonald-Vice President and Paula McDonald is the Head Coach.
