The Samoan Government has rejected a proposal to cultivate cannabis in Samoa for medicinal purposes telling the initiators that “it may be 200 years” before it may look at it again.

According to Samoa Observer, a company called Leaf Relief from Australia had made the proposal.

But in a letter addressed to a Reynard Mulia’ina dated April 11th, Tuilaepa shut the door on the proposal.

The Prime Minister told the company that the proposal had been thoroughly analyzed by government officials.

“It’s conclusion is for government to reject outright the cultivation of cannabis in Samoa and it maybe 200 years yet before we shall ever again consider this kind of project for our peaceful country,” wrote Tuilaepa.

Funding for the scholarships comes in part from the NOAA Fisheries Pacific Islands Regional Office and Pacific Island Fisheries Science Center.
