The American Samoa Nutrition Assistance Program, ASNAP, also known as the Food Stamp Program is celebrating 25 years of service. The program provides monthly food vouchers for low income elderly, blind and disabled individuals.
As part of the celebrations, for the first five days of each month beginning this July, there’ll be stalls in front of the ASNAP Office in Utulei where recipients can use their ASNAP vouchers to purchase vegetables, fruits and crops plus fish, grown and caught locally.
Since April 20, food stamp coupons can be used to purchase locally grown and food items.
The stalls in front of the ASNAP office this week are selling bananas, taro, fresh coconut, oka and some cooked items.
