It’s a week long Golden Jubilee celebration for what used to be an all boys Catholic high school, Marist Brothers Malaeloa this week.
The anniversary opened with a Eucharistic celebration at the Holy Family Cathedral, Fatuoaiga yesterday led by one of the graduates, Monsignor Viane Etuale, and brother priests many of whom were also MBHS alumnus.
The school amalgamated with the all girls Catholic high school, Faasao High School at Lepuapua in 2001, to become Faasao Marist High School.
The school at Malaeloa is now the home of St Theresa Elementary.
The jubilee celebration is planned as an event for the whole family which is one of the core values of the Marist Brothers, who were pioneers of formal education in American Samoa.
After Mass, the Marist Alumni and their families gathered for a meet and greet where graduates exchanged stories from their school years, their favorite and not so favorite teachers and comparing their sizes when they were in school and now.
Alums Keith Gebauer and Christopher King said each of the four school houses are planning an event for the celebration.
And many graduates of MBHS have traveled from off island.
