Another team has announced their candidacy for the 2020 gubernatorial elections. Fatumalala Al-Shehri and running mate Leah A. Smith today made public their intentions to be in the race for governor and lt governor.
Fatumalala has contested American Samoa’s Congressional seat and twice ran in the House of Representatives elections for Alataua.
Her running mate is involved in missionary work for the Assembly of God Church, she is a chaplain and holds a doctorate in Christian counseling and pastoral care.
Leah Smith is the daughter of the late Pastor Etisone Faaita of Leone and Fausaga Mageo of Pago Pago.
The woman’s team has picked as their slogan, “It’s A New Season,” which according to Fatumalala reflects their aspirations for women to lead the territory after decades of men leading the government.
