A local company hopes to satisfy families and friends in Hawaii and the mainland who write home for banana, taro and breadfruit chips,

Moana Chips is a new venture for Breakers Point Inc. which owns and operates Paradise Restaurant and Pizza in Pago Pago and Nu’uuli.

President Patricia Vaivao said their vision is to export a variety of chips to the US and the rest of the world and will source taro, bananas, breadfruit and other local produce from American Samoa’s farmers to make tasty snacks.

The business will also create jobs and thereby grow the territory’s economy.

The company is launching their first line of products, Moana Taro Chips Sea-Salt flavor, on Friday.
