Fesoasoani Alofa mo samoa raises $255,000

When the Fesoasoani Alofa mo Samoa fundraiser ended on Saturday at Suiga ula o le Atuvasa $255,199.41 had been raised.

One of the final donations made Saturday morning was $4460 from the Senate and House , which was handed over by Senator Faamausili Mau Mau Jr.

According to a breakdown of the donations announced by Treasurer Ueligitone Tonumaipe’a who co chaired the fundraiser with Secretary of Samoan Affairs Mauga Tasi Asuega:

  •  $41,413 was donated by government departments,
  • $43,070 from churches,
  • $123,340 from businesses and corporations,
  • $5,000 from villages,
  • $3,827 from organizations and associations.
  • $38,549.41 from the public.

Governor Lolo Moliga said the fund drive for Samoa was intended to close this Friday however because of the generous response from the territory the committee has decided to close it Saturday, December.

He said that the overwhelming response from all sectors of the territory was an indication that the people of American Samoa are  living the Gospel preached by servants of God

“Ua soifua le atunuu i le alofa,” he said. (The country lives with love).

Lolo expressed his gratitude for the expression of love and the sacrifices that the people, churches, villages, businesses, government and everyone has made to help Samoa deal with the measles tragedy.

The governor noted that donations from the Fono and government departments would be finalized before an officially tally is announced later thsi week.

He also announced Saturday that a delegation of five will travel to Samoa to present American Samoa’s fesoasoani…assistance to Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele, the Parliament and government and people of Samoa.

The delegation will include Lt Governor Lemanu Peleti Mauga and Secretary of Samoan Affairs Mauga Tasi Asuega, the Treasurer, a representative of the Fono and talking chiefs Fofo Sunia and Senator Tuaolo Manaia Fruean.
