The Samoa Government on Friday opened the week of fasting and prayer to usher in 2020, and seek God’s protection as Samoa enters the cyclone season.
It was held at the Government Prayer House at Palisi and was led by the Chairman of the National Council of Churches, Rev. Deacon Kasiano Leaupepe.
The theme of the prayer service was “the best things come from small parcels”.
The sermon by Reverend Mautofu Afamasaga called on government officials not to lose sight of their calling which is “to serve.”
Emphasizing that the measles epidemic was tragic, he appealed to the leaders to ask for and seek God’s comfort while praying and fasting over it.
He also reminded the government officials of the importance of prayer and fasting in one’s life and service.
Among those attending were the Head of State Tuimaleali’ifano Va’aletoa Sualauvi II, Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, Acting Chief Justice Vui Clarence Nelson, cabinet ministers, chief executive officers, Members of Parliament and public servants.
